Artist statement:
Can I cast beauty onto canvas as a rainbow streaks the sky as light through water? Nature provides a mass of inspiration in all living things and beauty can be captured in every context if we choose to see it. Itâs all about perspective.
Beauty in itself is intangible and transient, but the emotional bliss it instils can be timeless and infinite.
I choose to see, create and convey beauty. I work with acrylic on canvas taking cues from Mother Nature to create paintings that reflect the bigger picture, whether itâs the bare outline of the human form or aerial reflections from space. My works have an organic feel; raw and broadly structured while the detail is fluid and soft.
While the macro perspective takes centre stage in attracting interest and evoking an intellectual connection, the viewer can become lost in intricate detail on closer inspection.
As an artist, I aim to take the viewer to a place where they connect with my interpretation of beauty and gain pleasure from the interface with my artwork.
Artist biography:
Michelle Averyâs work reflects the bigger picture, whether itâs the abstract outline of the human form, earthly rock formations or aerial reflections from outer space. The macro perspective takes centre stage attracting interest and evoking an intellection connection only to unveil intricate detail on closer inspection.
Her latest acrylic on canvas collection takes a macro view in reflecting aerial images from space, including global views of earth, the moon and solar flares. The concept of terraforming is also conveyed, the concept of establishing an earth like atmosphere in another planet. The result is a very raw and organic collection of artworks that also remain fluid with neutral gender tones.
Earlier collections have varied considerably, although also abstract but more surreal in nature. These paintings had a very feminine flavour with womanly shapes, soft lines and use of swirls, colour and texture expressing this âgirlieâ underpinning.
âBeing comfortable about being âa girlâ and proud of âwearingâ the softer feminine aspects of being âgirlieâ is something that I feel is getting lost in the face of having to conform to what often feels like âa manâs worldâ. My paintings are an attempt to restore a feminine balance, and the comfort to âwearâ femininity in our homes and reflect the beauty of the âgirlieâ influence. This is almost an opposition to the feminist movement, where I feel that the shift, which until recent decades, was based on a positive argument, has almost gone âtoo farâ â to the point of losing our sense of selves and identity.â
